The Miami County Quilt Barns Tour and Cookout will
take place on October 18, 2009. Plan a day driving your Corvair with other club members and enjoy the Fall scenery.
We meet at McDonald's restaurant in Vandalia at 1:00 p.m. We will drive
together through rural parts of Miami County and make occasional stops to view some of the Quilt Barns.
Painted by Rafael Santoyo, the barns were used as a canvas for colorful
quilting squares and many barns were painted all over Miami County. No two Quilt Barns have the same pattern. It is an enjoyable
sight to see even if we have to drive by some without stopping.
Our last stop on the Quilt Barns tour is at the Clark's farm. This is a delightful place for our
cookout. It is located just two miles west of New Carlisle at the southeastern corner of Miami County, not far from Huber
Heights. This Quilt Barn is featured on the cover of the 2009 Quilt Barns calendar and we can walk up close to see it. This
is the farm I lived on in my youth and my sister and parents warmly welcome you to enjoy your visit.
There are plenty of animals to keep the kids and grandkids entertained.
We have young calves the kids can feed from a milk bottle. We have Scottish cows with long shaggy hair to gawk at.
Some horses to pet and lots of young rabbits to cuddle. Maybe there will be a pony-ride, so bring your camera!
We expect to arrive at the farm by 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. and start grilling
our dinner. We will have a bonfire to enjoy. Bring some marshmallows, pumpkin pies and apple cider or other covered dish if
you want to share and of course bring your chairs and eating utensils.
